This is a Shino tea bowl by Ohashi Shuji (1795-1857), known as a potter and literati of the late Edo period.

Ohashi Shuji was from Owari. He was initially involved in medicine while also engaging in tea ceremony and literati culture, and is said to have later devoted himself to pottery. He studied pottery techniques in Kyoto and other places, researched Mino ware such as Shino, Oribe, and Kiseto, and in his later years, opened a kiln in Yoro to create pottery. These are also known as Yoro ware or Shuji ware.

As many of his works were given to acquaintances, few remain today, making them popular as rare tea ceremony utensils in the field of antiques and fine art.

This piece features the characteristic soft white glaze of Shino, with fire marks (hīro) visible, creating a simple and rustic charm. It is a bowl that can be enjoyed both in tea ceremonies and for appreciation.
