Tatōshi - specialized paper for storing kimonos What is Tatōshi? Tatōshi are specialized wrapping papers for storing kimonos. The name varies by region. Besides tatōshi and tatōgami, they are also called bunko-shi or bunko-gami, and many other names. (In some areas, the same term tatōshi might refer to kaishi paper or isho-jiki.) The main roles of tatōshi are: ① Mold prevention ② Dust and dirt prevention ③ Wrinkle prevention. ① Mold Prevention As the name suggests, tatōshi are made of paper and are expected to absorb moisture. If moisture accumulates in chests of drawers or closets, it can lead to mold.
