There is a hot-shoe style flash mount on the left side, with special commemorative engravings and the characters 海鴎 and 四十周年特制 on the top plate. A special commemorative serial number plate is attached.
SEAGULL (海鷗) is a camera manufacturer in the People's Republic of China, founded in 1958 (headquartered in Shanghai).
The Chinese characters for Seagull are written as 海鴎 and are pronounced Haiou.
Previously known as Shanghai Haiou Camera Factory, the company currently produces digital cameras, 35mm SLRs, and 4x5 view cameras, and also supplies twin-lens reflex cameras to Japanese companies like Texa on an OEM basis, continuing its business.
The company's most famous product is the Hongqi.
This Leica M3 copy camera, with approximately 300 units produced in 1971 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding of New China in 1949, was reportedly made under the instruction of Mao Zedong's wife, Ms. Jiang Qing, to manufacture a camera comparable to Germany's highest quality 'Leica M3'. It is a Leica M-mount compatible camera, and three lenses were also prepared.
